Alesis M1 Active MK2?
Hey guys, i am helping a freind of mine set up a small home studio. We already have most of the gear, a good AMD based PC, and 001 soundcard. Its all set up and rockin but at the moment he is only using multimedia speakers and wants to get some decent monitors. I recomended the Mackie HR624's but they are a little too expensive. I then recommended the Alesis M1 Active MK2's as i have heard good things about them, but before he buys them i just wanted to check with you guys and see want you think about them.
Thanks for any info.

Re: Alesis M1 Active MK2?
Go with the Alesis. They are the best investment in that price range. My home studio uses them and I love how acurate they are. We record mostly folk/acoustic players but also do the occasional band and they can't be beat. I too would like to be able to afford the Mackies but since we've gotten the Alesis I haven't worried about upgrading to something better. Make sure you get a good set up cables to hook them up with. We are using Monster Pro balanced 1/4" to XLR. Good luck with your pursuit.

Re: Alesis M1 Active MK2?
I used to have the Mackie HR824 for about a year. I got so tired of them and their hyped bottom end that I nearly threw them out the window. Luckily, there was Ebay and an eager buyer.
After testing many other speakers to replace them with, wouldn't you know it, the Alesis M1mk2 Actives were the most impressive. To be brutallty honest, I didn't get them because they sounded better than the others, in fact they didn't, they just sounded like the way a monitor should sound.....flat. There is nothing exagerated in their sound, it's very linear, if anything, lacking a bit of sparkle and clarity in the highs, but that's what I like about them. If I've ever been so honest, I can say mixes never translated so well. After I purchased them, a very reliable source even told me that they're somewhat of a 'well kept secret'. Best $400 I've ever spent.
