Default HD Omni dying?

Hello everyone. Just wanted to see if anyone has this same issue with their HD Omni interface…

I bought my HD Omni a little over 2 years ago, it had worked great, but then one day the LCD screens in the front panel did not show any text in them, but it would still work inputing and outputting audio, and then one day none of the color LEDs or meters would work, and then the next day it would work perfect for weeks and then the problem would come back for a couple of days, and so on…

I bought it through sweetwater who offers 1 year extra of warranty, so I sent it to them, and they sent it to AVID, and guess what? the unit performed perfectly without any issues, so they sent it back to me, and a few months later and out of warranty, it is doing it again…

Has this issue happened to anyone? any solution ideas?

Thanks in advance

Has not happened to me yet... Maybe heat generated from your rack make this issue pop up??

My first guess would be the PSU unit or it's connection

Yes this has happened on my Omni aswell. But only a couple of times.
By the way it also happened on a new Omni i borrowed for some days from my local music dealer while mine was in for service.
I don't think it's heat related since my omni is standing well ventilated by itself not in any rack.

I don't know if this is related but some time after this happened preamp 1 on my omni went almost dead. Lost 30-40db. It's currently in on service at Avid Ireland.

Just a thought...

Do you guys have stable electric power at your studios?

I've seen sorta-similar problems with various types of gear when the voltage gets a bit "saggy"...

Just rockin'...what more is there?

I have not measured it but the building is fairly new so I don't think that is an issue in my case.

Thanks for the replys. The power is very stable in my building, so I don't think it is that... the rack can get a bit warm sometimes, but the 192 and other equipment I have in it seem to be doing fine. Still not getting close to a solution it seems...

Thanks for the thoughts though.

Had same with my first omni... Send that back so the second came in. After a while the second did the same, think after couple days.

Ireland advised firmware update and did that never faced any problem anymore.

Hi there,

Same problem with mine.
I can't really help, but in my opinion and experience the led problem is related to:
- unstable power
- inefficiency of AVID products.

Thanks AVID: your products are the most expensive in the market but far away to be the best.

Cheers to all, victims of AVID.
