G5 duo core powermac 2.3 Ghz PRO Tools le 8.0
will a g5 powermac with the above specs support an le 8.0 upgrade. I am currently running 2 gigs of ecc ram with my Le 7.0 mbox 2 setup and if my computer could handle 8.0 i was going to upgrade to at least 4 gigs maybe 6 gigs of ecc ram ???
Anybody's thought would greatly be appreciated |

Re: G5 duo core powermac 2.3 Ghz PRO Tools le 8.0
Is it a intel mac with a single dual core processor or is it a ppc mac with 2 separate processors? I know you wrote "duo core" but all the specs would help.
I'd say you should be fine. I am using a Dual 2.5 PPC g5 with no problems. I have 6GB ram, 2 1gb factory cards and I bought another 4 GB of G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) from newegg and everything has been working perfectly for the past 7-8 months, even though I mixed ram brands which I normally don't recommend. I have used my 002 console and an mbox1, recently upgraded to 8.0.1 and everything is still good.

2.3 dual core G5 came out after the 2.5 "dual" You will be fine with PTLE 8.0.1 and Leopard OS. Give it 6 gigs of RAM ... more if you are using Virtual Instruments. 4 gigs OK but..... |

Re: G5 duo core powermac 2.3 Ghz PRO Tools le 8.0
to clarify
it is a power pc G5 (1.1) 2.3 ghz power mac 11.2 L2 cache per cpu 1 mb 6 memory slots are open using currently 2 gigs of ecc ram in my pro tools le 7.0 so to clarify it is a power pc NOT INtel based. I was concerned because i heard some people saying that le 8.0 doesn't operate as well on the power pc's compared to the intel based macs. I was hoping this wasn't the case. Oh by the way what are the big differences between le 7.0 and 8.0 Also was wondering how much better the m box 2 pro is over the m box 2 |
