Default Current $499 USD Ultimate Upgrades for Perpetual v12/higher (FAQ says HD9/higher)

Please see attached pics – are both offers valid and acceptable?

Avid emails (condensed version):

If you have a Pro Tools Ultimate or Pro Tools | HD 12 or later perpetual license registered in your Avid Account, you can upgrade it to a current Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license for $499 USD – offer ends in 19 days (through June 30, 2022).
Plans may be purchased after this offer has expired at regular $749 USD pricing.

FAQ:
https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...ro-Tools-Tiers
What about perpetual license owners without a current Software Updates + Support Plan?

Avid is reintroducing Upgrades (previously referred to as "Reinstatement" or "Get Current") which allow perpetual license owners to get onto a current plan to get new software releases, plug-ins and support. Perpetual v9/higher license owners can buy the Upgrade from an Avid Reseller. Users with expired Software Updates + Support Plans can also upgrade directly from their product in my.avid.com/products.

Please note: your Upgrade Plan begins straight away if you purchase from Avid. If you want this Upgrade for use at a later date, purchase a Code from a Reseller. Don’t Redeem or Register your Reseller Code until you are ready to use it!

AVID is going to suffer in a big way with inflation and their subscription prices.

The recession is here and I know people a already abandoning subscriptions all together and moving to what makes more sense financially.

Its going to be rough for the next couple of years.

Times have changed. Remember when Reinstatements were $999?
https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=405150

I feel Avid has already acknowledged the tough times ahead – and what makes more sense financially - by offering Ultimate Perpetual (not Subscription) Upgrades for half-price, at $499.

Professionals will keep updating annually – and keep claiming the expense.

Many hobbyists will be happy to sit on the latest version - for as long as possible. This means wallets and purses will remain tightly closed, until they’re prised open again, by better stability and features in a newer version.

Avid has let us stop paying for annual upgrades if we feel that we don’t need them, by selling us Reinstatements & Upgrades that let us decide when to renew, without having to pay full-price, all over again. Good move!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder – sales will definitely reflect any ugliness, as well as determine future pricing.

When do I need to activate the Avid Pro Tools Upgrade License for Expired Perpetual License?
There is no deadline to activate the upgrade (i.e., a purchased GET CURRENT Upgrade code can be applied in future) It does not expire.

Offer ends June 30 2022

Does this mean that the renewal price is going up for perpetual owners, or is this just a short term price for those that have let their "Support" plan lapse? I think I'm just moving away from pro tools.... I've been mixing in other DAW's for a few projects and going back to pro tools feels like going back in time. There's been zero innovation for years and it still barely works on apple silicon, yet they just keep asking for more and more money. I'd be happy to pay for a subscription if they focused more on improvements or catching up on seemingly simple features.

Yes - this is just a short-term price (offer ends JUN 30 22) for those without an Active Plan - which means their Perpetual license "Support" plan has lapsed.

What’s good about this deal that may appeal to you, apart from the discount:

Upgrades purchased from Avid Resellers
(but definitely not Upgrades purchased from Avid) come with a Code you can redeem at a later date, when you decide that Pro Tools provides what you need.

Today’s email from Avid (almost) set the record straight:

The $499 USD Upgrade for a HD9 to HD11 perpetual license is only available from Resellers – here’s the full message:

* The 33% savings offer is available only through June 30, 2022, to Pro Tools | HD 9 and later or Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license owners without a 1-Year Software Updates + Support Plan. Plans may be purchased after this offer has expired at regular $749 USD pricing.

** If you have a Pro Tools | HD 12 or later or Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license that’s registered in your Avid Account, you can upgrade through your Avid Account or local reseller. Pro Tools | HD 9–11 perpetual license owners can upgrade through your local reseller only.

I wrote "(almost)" because a slight ambiguity remains - so I replied to this email with this question:

Please clarify:
Does the "Pro Tools | HD 9–11 perpetual license" also have to be "registered in your Avid Account" - or can someone who bought a used Pro Tools | HD 9 to HD 11 (that is on their iLok, but has not been transferred to their Avid account) also upgrade from a Reseller?

Today's reply from Avid Global Customer Care:

Yes, provided that the owner who will reinstate the Pro Tools HD 9 to 11 has an Avid Account
