Default G4 733 / OS 9.2.1 startup problems!!!!!!!
I just bought a G4 733 last week and put protools on it - now when I startup G4 it takes quite a long time till desktop comes up ( lot more than with my G3 before!!!!)

does anybody knows why?

please help!

what kind of pro\Tool extention setup did you do. There are lots of extention you don't need and some you must have removed before it will run faster.Do you have Nortons, or virus software running in background? lots of questions about you set up will be needed to answer you problems! I have norton but filesaver isn`t active - I have all extensions on (standard config 9.2.1.)
could you tell me which extensions I don`t need for PT??(had a list for 8.6....does it work for 9.2.1.??)

What time of the boot up process does your mac "spend more time"?
e.g. in the white startup screen?in the smiley face screen?in the welcome to macOS screen?

desktop is there but control panel doesn`t appear... after 1 minute it appears [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

why??? never had that before...

Try turning AppleTalk off from the chooser.

I've had this, too. Turning off the Apple Enet extension fixed my problem.

You may need to reset the startup drive. Open the startup drive control panel and select the drive the contains your system folder.

Also try rebuilding the desktop (hold Command and Option keys while restarting).

It's because you have a much bigger start-up drive than you did with your older machine. I had the same concern when I had my 40gb start-up drive go bad & bought a new 80gb drive. I't'll take even more time when you start up with a new external Drive on the SCSI bus.
