Default Sluggish System and -DAE 9073 Help Needed

A session this past weekend made me doubt this rig all together. I am running: PT 8.0.3, Mac OS 10.5.8 with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Processors. The hardware is 2 HD 192's 1 HD Sync and a Digideesign 64bit expansion bay. I was tracking only 15 tracks split to 2 500GB internal sata drives and the performance of the rig was extremely sluggish on record and playback as well as unstable. Pro Tools crashed many times between takes (typically while I started to record or shortly thereafter) often causing the Mac to tell me to hold down the power buton to restart. I made it through the session but now when I try to playback anything I get a DAE error -9073 followed by the message about getting data from the firewire drive quick enough. I understand that the message is general and doesn't actually refer to firewire drives but what really gets me is that I can run sessions I did last month that have 80 tracks without a problem on the same rig, same sample rate, same drives.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Have you done all the usual fixes mentioned in this thread? Repaired disk permissions etc. http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=240754

Were you using any VI's and are your plugins all up to date? All these things can have a bearing on how PT performs.

I have ran through the system setup to make sure everything is up to date and just repaired disk permissions but now the session opens up, the task manager opens and starts to calculate an overview for 1 of the tracks and the whole session freezes. It looks like the rig had trouble keeping up with calculating the overview of that track, once it finished the session started running. I would expect though that playing 15 tracks and writing the overview on 1 shouldn't stop everything. Of course after working in the session the error shows up again.
