Upgrade 12.8.1 --> to 12.8.3 vs 12.8.4
Hello everybody,
I am currently running 12.8.1 on Sierra with PT HDX. Would like to upgrade to 12.8.3 or Ultimate 2018.4. No real problems with 12.8.1, but am wondering if I would get better VI and Native performance with the upgrade. 1) With Avid HDX, (not Native) is there a preference? I use a moderate to heavy amount of VI's and Waves plugs in my productions. 2) Do I need to install First AIR Instruments Bundle 18.1 Installer and XPand!2 18.1 Installer if I go to Ultimate 2018.4? Or will my previous installation work? 3) Does the dreaded El Cap video bug (sluggish video) re-appear in any of these versions? The problem disappeared when I went to Sierra (10.12.6) Systems specs are below... thanks for your help PT gurus! Last edited by Ray Lyon; 06-09-2018 at 09:33 PM. |

Hey Ray - You're only gonna get anecdotal reports here which are of limited use, but from my experience running a fairly similar rig, 2018.4 HDX working just fine for quite a while now on Sierra (I have not been recommending High Sierra only because there are no good directory repair utilities - read DiskWarrior - completely compatible with APFS yet). While I can't say definitively that native performance improved with the switch to 2018, it certainly isn't worse. As you know, I don't use VIs much, but clients of mine running the same or similar systems haven't reported any unusual issues. No particular video issues have cropped up in this config, though GPU issues are starting to surface with the newer OS's and older cards. I don't see a reason why you wouldn't update your AIR instruments? They've all been updated for 2018 and it's not a big deal to update. best, rich

Thank you Rich! Nice to hear from you and trust all is well. JH tells me he's been working with you quite a bit! Best regards and thanks again for your excellent work on Trinity One!
