I think it was Avid's cloud authorization.
I'll look into getting away from it but I manage several systems in different cities so it's convenient.

No recent problems listed at https://status.ilok.com though this doesn't sound license specific. There have been other internet issues reported recently like with YouTube yesterday.

Cloud iLok does stink IMNSHO.

But there may also be something something more general going on in the pipes of the Internet. I'm not sure its YouTube... one interesting thing is Apple's certificate service has been hit hard and is causing other problems for folks. I wonder if there might be a cascade up to that root service happening here. Maybe Avid Link or Collaboration is relying on that? Who knows, but Little snitch would give a clue...

I remove that Link and Collaboration crapware with a vengeance so I have no ideas, but also have no problems

Interesting.. It seems that the same issue happened to me today as well around the same time. EST time zone.

I came across twitter.com/lapcatsoftware/status/1326990296412991489 which may (or may not) be related? Also discussed at duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=412652

it wasn't an iLok issue as I was able to lunch stand alone apps that use iLok w/o issue. As soon as Avid link was finally able to connect then PT would launch. The first machine was down for 30 minutes before he called me. Then I was down for 30 minutes on top of that. I had internet and I was able access my iLok account. Seems strange that it would have plagued 3 separate machines the exact same way unless it was Avid related. PT would just hang on startup for all three of us mid way and in the force quit menu it said (Not Responding).

Yep one of several folks online pointing to the same thing. Looks like Apple screwed up. Unfortunately an unavoidable dependence there with signed packages.

Yep, that sounds like the problem.

I have to say, being a PT user for about 25 years.... The support is very lacking. It's impossible to get anyone on the phone and even when I pay for a subscription service, trying to access a support option is very frustrating.
Thankfully the DUC is here but that shouldn't be one's best option. I've paid the ridiculous emergency 4 hour option before and still didn't get a call back until the next day and it was zero help. I get that troubleshooting is tough and most of us are pretty good about it ourselves but at least the appearance that they care would be nice.

Hey!

Same thing happened to me over here. Was going along fine in a Dialog Predub, and my cpu fan and temp spiked (now I know it was hanging processes in the bg trying to connect to that server).. I thought at the time it was the avid video engine. So I restarted the machine and when it restarted none of the launch items were loading and all the apps were bouncing up and down and nothing would happen even my keyboard and mouse were lagging. Before I got the chance to read this thead or know it was an issue with Apple I had decided to wipe and restore my mix machine. I ended up doing a 1.2 TB restore that took the entire night and now everything is good to go. Had I have known I would’ve have like to avoid that but at least I got a chance to test my back up system. This is what brings me back to the DUC after about eight years I had become complacent in system maintenance, since the days of assisting, with the good folks at the shop. Due to Covid and some lockdowns I have build a temporary treated and calibrated solution above my garage and I’m doing pre-dubs from here and quite frankly it’s refreshing and great to be doing everything again. Glad to be back at the DUC hope to chat with you soon.

Cheers
