Default Replacement for the 002 - suggestions on new interface

I want to replace my 002 rack. Any suggestions?

16 channels will do since I need to transfer from a 16-track 2" Ampex. I do have a Presonus eight input that can be connected to an ADAT Lightpipe connection so the new interface needs at least eight line inputs. Prefer Firewire connection.

Don't need effects just a clean signal path.

Suggestions?

It depends on your budget, but in the last few years, the most popular replacement has been the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 or 56. They sound great, have good support, and the included Mix software is very useful and versatile.

If you're going for a much higher budget, the new Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt is pretty impressive.

Other well liked products at budgets in-between would be the various products by RME.

Ive been recommending the Allen and Heath QU 16... It has your 16 ins, connects direct as an interface to pro tools, can even assign you pro tools tracks to the faders and actually mix with motorized faders... It also has the ability to route your transport controls to the 4 user defined buttons with the latest software... another awesome feature is the stand alone multitracking via USB drive... 18 channels of multitrack within the mixer itself (the tracks come off the direct out unless you change the assignment to a mix buss and the last 2 tracks are your stereo buss mix)... so you could take it to a venue track without having PT and a computer and then just dump the files into a PT template and your ready to edit/mix... Very cool console

For around 1500 you cant beat it... plus it works as a stand alone mixer

Very impressive for $1,500.

Since I already have MC Control, I don't need another mixer. But nice if you need a control panel.

I like knobs and switches not menus and mice. Nice product.
