Default iLok Revolt???

Is nobody pissed off about this iLok thing?

I have a Powerbook and am already using my two USB ports for Midi and the MBox. I bought a powerbook because I have limited space and don't want a bunch of peripherals around. Now I need a hub and this stupid key? Another $100 just have things the work they do now, without any improvement?

Ok, great I can take this key around with me. Guess what? I use one computer period, I don't need whatever this partability feature is.

I guess I'm not upgrading. I'm totally pissed about this. I've been looking forward to using OSX for a year now and it looks like I'll just be staying on OS9. Thanks Digi!

blame apple for not supporting floppy drives under OS X. If they did, the iLok wouldn't be essential for plug-in authorisation.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Um, how about blaming the software pirates. If people weren't so bent on getting something for nothing, all this copy protection wouldn't be necessary. Software pirates cost us all money and now they're costing us a USB port to boot.

Floppy? Come'on, sorry to say, but floppies are dead. This is 2003, having a 1.4MB disk is puny. Things change, we can't rely on legacy technology forever. Blame Apple, that is a good one

What makes me mad about the iLok is that is serves only that one purpose and costs $40!!!

Why can't I put the authorizations on my Disk-On-Key 32MB USB drive? For those of you who aren't familiar, it's a little keychain drive and for $40 you can get some good storage for mp3 rough mixes, etc.

Those drives are made with storage capacity up to like 512MB.

Let me use my own existing key drive instead of paying $40 for a dongle!

Would that be possible Digi? It couldn't be that hard!

OH- and I totally agree with Pasquale about the PT authorization on an iLok. With iLok we ought to be able to load a copy of PTLE on a powerbook and edit away without the hardware. But I'm imagining that that would require a software re-write to allow PT to use sound manager.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I'm just unable to nickel and dime myself out of 100s of dollars to run pretty much the same program, just on a different platform. Perhaps I'll change my mind, though, when reports come in about how it runs on a dual G4 (which I've got)....

I'm actually looking at getting Apple iLogic (or whatever it'll be called)....
