mbox2 pro stand alone operation

hi,
when you run the mbox 2 pro without connected to the computer via firewire cable,
but just power adapter...
you still can monitor the inputs, through monitor output... via speakers etc...
is there any AD/DA conversion at this operation,
or is it just direct input/output without any AD/DA operation.
