Default Has PT\'s mixer\'s audio path \'math\' been improved in 5.1 or is that just a myth?

Some people have been saying that 5.1 'sounds better'. Some peolple refer to 26 channels needing dither or a chip???? Some people have noticed the mixer takes more space on card chips?????

seems like a grey area and unsatisfactory to me, I would like to know for sure.

Digi, has the mixer math been upgraded in any way?

A no show from Digi on this thread will have to be logged as a definate NO - No improvement made to the mixer.

Now start the speculation while we wait for Digi to comment or not.

One possible improvement can be had via the new Waves plug ins, they have been upgraded haven't they?

While we wait, how about a list of the coolest plugs as far as internal digital architecture goes.. Waves is cool.... any other primo plug ins out there that help manipulate the sound but preseve quality?

Not necessarily. A yes would be an admission that things were not as good as they could have been previously. Having said that, there was a denial that any sonic changes had been made to the mixer in 5.1, by someone on this list from Digidesign. try doing a search.

Caramba!

Whats wrong with a tweak here and there?

Central to the question is the curiosity about on going developmental tweaks, simple enough! (not some request for a 'confession'!)

So Digi, are you tweaking it as you go along?

the Mixer WAS revved to support compatibilty with the surround mixer, (creating sub-paths of a suround path etc.), but not in the sound quality context.

It still sounds great, as it always has. (IMHO)

They did change one algorithm in the summing bus: whenever a sample with an integer total of 10 is computed, it is automatically changed to 11. Other DAW's only go to 10, but Pro tools goes to 11.
