Default Mackie Onyx 820i

There is a lot of information about the Mackie Onyx 820i features but not a lot of information regarding sound quality, the mixer sonic character and AD conversion. Any studio users or live sound users got any experience with any of the Mackie Onyx i series and would like to share their opinion?

I currently own the Onyx 1640i !! and I use it with Pro Tools 9 ... no single glitch ... crystal clear AD Conversion .... Definitely worth it !! :) I just were not able to use it with Pro Tools at 192 KHZ

Is that Avid ASIO Driver or Avid CoreAudio Driver, DJ Bechara? I owned a Behringer a little while ago and ever since I have been really skeptical about live sound mixers. One of the added features for me is the DAW integration and having the ability to capture that live sound on separate channels does appeal however if the quality of the mixer isn't good enough then I've got to be looking else where. Can you tell me a bit about your setup with the Onyx 1640i, DJ Bechara?

it's an Avid Asio Driver ... Trust me I've tried other stuff ... and this mixer beats them all as in regards to sound quality and preamps ... well about my setup ... it's pretty simple ... I am using the onyx 1640i for tracking mainly in Pro Tools 9 ... I just use the firewire cable and everything works perfectly .... one good thing about it is that i can re route all the channels in pro tools back to the mixer so i would be able to mix in real time ...

Are you using an Avid Approved SIIG FW card? And using Avid ASIO Driver, Pro Tools sees the Mackie Onyx i as a control surface?

no need for an approved FW card .... and the Onyx is not a control surface ... it's a live mixer ....
