I am having difficulty installing PT 10 over LE 8. I have an 003 rack, and I followed the instructions and installed the latest drivers first (9.02.65). Probably should mention right off this is a Windows 7 system. But the installation aborts with a message that old drivers are detected and must be removed before installation. Worse yet, the complimentary Avid Support Code I gratefully received with my purchase doesn't work. It is not accepted by the phone system or online. Since there seems to be no way to contact tech support without a valid ASC, I am pretty much screwed. But perhaps someone knows about this issue here? Maybe even tech support? I can hope.

Kind of surprised I've not seen a single reply or comment on my issue. I have considered that it may take Avid a while, say two weeks?, to activate the ASC, but I haven't seen anything in the forums that definitely addresses that. Nor is there any insight being given on the driver problem that seems to be the root cause of my difficulty. I'm certain that tech support is overwhelmed, but I'd hoped that some nice tech would have stumbled upon my initial post and realized that something in this chain of events is not right. The holiday weekend is probably not helping.

Try to make a complete uninstall of 8, install 10 but move the third party plug ins in the unused folder, reboot and see what happen.

Since the issue is with the 003 drivers, I fail to see how uninstalling PT 8 will help. That will not affect the drivers at all. Still, as a last resort, I may end up there eventually.

Yes uninstalling Pro Tools 8 before installing Pro Tools 10 would be a wise move. In fact, restoring to a image or clone previous to installing Pro Tools would be even better.

My recommendation as well. You likely have(assuming you have the PT8 install disk) and UNinstaller that I would run. I would also (unless you can restore from a drive image, which is best) go into Control Panel>Uninstall a program and right-click on anything that says Avid driver. It might be worth a trip to Device Manager and see if you can get the 003 to switch to the new driver, but doing some housecleaning and starting from a clean slate is likely the best route. BTW, I also assume you noticed that there are different drivers depending on if you have the rack or the console version of the 003(and 002 for anyone curious).

Thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it. As with many others who have posted around installation issues, I was reluctant to uninstall PT 8 given that I believe that would require reinstallation of all plugins, a tedious process. I tried the halfway solution. So I went ahead and uninstalled three sets of Avid/Digi drivers. The new set of 003 rack drivers (9.02.65), the Avid audio drivers, and Eleven Rack drivers. Waddya know, PT10 installed without a hitch. I then reinstalled the new drivers. It seemed my troubles were over. Yeah, but . . . NOW, PT 10 won't start because it says I don't have the Ilok authorization, even though Ilok.com says I DO have it. I have repeatedly synced my Ilok without effect. Most aggravating. I'm also wondering if anyone has a thought about the ASC issue I mentioned. Do I just need to wait a while for the code to be activated?

Uninstalling Pro Tools will not uninstall any plug-ins not associated with Pro Tools. In the past uninstalling Pro Tools did uninstall Creative Collection and associated plug-ins. Also uninstalling Pro Tools will uninstall the associated hardware driver. Anyways, did you install iLok PACE Driver?

Aah, thanks for that. I had thought I would lose everything. But, yeah, the install seems fine, as far as I can tell. At least it starts to load, until the iLok issue takes over. In fact, I eventually got a message from the system that I need the new PACE driver. Now the PACE installer fails because it can't find a file: License Support.msi. I've searched for it without success. Really appreciate the guidance, and wish this gauntlet was run.

If License Support isn't installing then you need to uninstall and reinstall Pro Tools. Both License Support and PACE is installed as a prerequisite.
