Talking UAD-1 DSP Cards and Pro Tools?

So I was looking through the swetwater catalog and notice these UAD-1 DSP Cards. It has this little symbole that says RTAS wich supposedly means its RTAS compatible. Is that true becuase I was wondering if they would work good with a system to use with plugins. I also noticed some other brands that were in the catalog to.

Do some searches here, I beleive the RTAS compatibilty come VIA the VST to RTAS wrapper and as I recall the UAD stuff has whopping 2048 samples of latentcy or something like that, Also there have been a LOT of posts by people having problems with the cards and PT.

You would probably be better off in the long run putting the UAD money towards building a newer Quad computer and running all native RTAS. Having said that there are a couple of cool UAD only plugs, the Roland stuff comes to mind.

Spend some time searching before you buy.

What UAD Really needs to do is issue native RTAS versions of all their plugs.

Those would be great! Maybe we can start a feature request on their website?

Cheers,

I have two UAD-1 cards and do perfectly fine running the UA plugins in Pro Tools. Yes, there is the delay issue due to the fact that the plugins are run on the UAD cards. Since PT LE doesn't support ADC, you have to manually compensate for time delay. This delay is a multiple of the hardware buffer size. Mellowmuse recently introducted the ATA plugin which helps a great deal.

UA will never port their plugins to run natively. The whole point of the card is to have the hardware dongle preventing piracy. The plugins installer does wrap the VST versions for RTAS use.

Exciting news about the UAD-2. http://www.uaudio.com/uad-2/
There will be three versions of the UAD-2 card as you can see if you look closely in the picture. These will have 2.5x, 5x and 10x the power of the UAD-1.

I have a question regarding CPU spikes and UAD-1. I am running UAD-2 right now and it is smooth as silk but I will eventually change the UAD-2 to two UAD-1 PCI´s. Is there smooth operation with UAD-1´s too ?

I don't have an answer to your question; I'm just wondering why you would do that?

I have one UAD-1, and yes, you do have to use the Fxpansion wrapper. They sound great, but that latency is a major PIA, enough that I hardly ever use em. Exception: LOVE the EMT 140 plate reverb on percussion, and the latency adds a nice pre-delay.
