Default PT9.0 unable to locate hardware!? Win7 on laptop

That or similar error turns up when trying to run PT9 on a Win7 laptop. Should it be ok to run with internal sound card? The error comes up when initializing PT so it never finishes loading but quits with the error giving no chance to check the playback engine settings. This is right after the install. Any suggestions welcome!

You need ASIO 4 ALL installed. Install that and yo should be good to go. Please see their manual regarding their control panel and how to route audio.

Thanks! So this means you cannot select internal sound card directly like you can with Mac's?

Yes! Core Audio is only support on Mac OS X as stated by the Manual. For Windows you have to use an ASIO compatible audio interface or use ASIO4ALL driver to give an alternative support to those audio interfaces that doesn't offer ASIO.
