Default Mic Modeling (Antares)

Got a question about Antares software verses hardware versions of Mic Modeling.
I want to start by saying I am not trying to make one mic sound like another, there are other things I like to use the Modeler for.
My question is do any of you guys (or gals) have any real world experience with using the AMM-1 or the new Vocal Producer? Does it really function like the plugin?
Since the plugin is Direct-X it requires more of a workaround than I want to deal with for the way I use it.
The rackmount would be a better fit if it really can accomplish the same type of sound manipulation.
Thanks for any replies on the matter.
