Linking 24 mix to HD
Just wondering if it's possible to link a mix system running at 44.1 with a HD system running at 96 with two macs. I want the mix system for loops and keys and the HD system for live instruments and vocals.

Re: Linking 24 mix to HD
As I see it there are no problems in doing that. Just send MTC and let one of them be slave and you would be set.

Re: Linking 24 mix to HD
The MTC can provide positional reference (and therefore a SMPTE trigger-point), but to be truly synchronized, you will need clock reference as well. You could achieve this if you had a USD on the MIX system, and a SYNC I/O on the HD system, and you sent black burst to both from a blackburst generator. There might be another way to provide clock reference that I am overlooking, but since your HD System is at 96k and your MIX System is at 44.1k, you cannot make a simple word-clock connection for clock reference as you could if the MIX system was at 44.1k and the HD System was at 88.2k, or if the MIX system was at 48k and the HD System was at 96k.

Re: Linking 24 mix to HD
MTC has a bulit in random slop of over 10 milliseconds and is not proffesional at all. Just use smpte for your syncing needs and you'll be fine. I've had as much as 30 milliseconds of slop with MTC and am amazed that they would ever include it in a supposed "pro" piece of gear.
