Default Carbon Overheating Message

Hello everyone,

This afternoon I just installed Pro Tools 2023.6 and after working for about an hour I received this message I've never seen before:

"The Pro Tools Carbon 2396 interface internal temperature is higher than expected, which could result in overheating. The device may need to be serviced." [see attached screenshot]

I've had my Carbon for over a year and never had a message like this nor any issues with the unit being to hot. Should I be worried?

Anyone else have any light to shed on this matter?

I've never seen this, and Avid assured me that before they changed the firmware to reduce the fan speed (which happened a long while back) that they had tested with the reduced fan speed and with multiple Carbons all in a rack on top of each other, and they were fine. So this implies to me that either a sensor has gone wrong, the fan has failed or you've blocked up the vents. Or it's too hot in your studio.

I'd start a case with Avid, you don't want to cook the box.

Dominic

Thanks Dominic. A little later I restarted Pro Tools and ran a session for about 3 hours and never saw the message again. Guess I'll wait and see if it happens again.

I built a custom cabinet for my Carbon and noticed that it was running quite hot. I ended up buying an 80mm 5v Noctua fan and a Noctua fan controller to draw air out of the Carbon. I connected with Velcro. I run the fan slow but I can feel the warm air coming out, which I'm always happy about! Good 45$ spend
