Default "setting up midi" takes forever at boot up

just installed PT10 and I love it, it definitely sound better than 9...
when I'm booting up, the "setting up midi" window stays frozen for a good 2 minutes and then it's fine... any clues?
thanks

Could be a corrupt MIDI config.

Throw away your MIDI configuration, then recreate it (quit PT first)

It's probably here - ~/Library/Audio/MIDI Configurations/

I stuck with 9 for the longest time, but since 10.2 and the problems became less a PT software issue and more "individual setup" issues... I upgraded all my studios and edit suites... Not one issue so far, infact I have had positive feedback from the engineers about how much smoother it is running.

Could be a driver issue... might get hung up communicating to your midi device... have you tried uninstalling the midi driver? Have you installed the latest PT midi driver?

Scroll down to Midi drivers:

Interesting... Try a total preference trash.... see if it pushes through the midi config at start up faster.
