Default iZotope is on a euthanising spree

I’m sure everyone will have their opinion on this, but reading through the list of euthanised plugins this morning made me a little sad. I’ve had some great times with Iris and Trash, I had always held out hope they would refresh them.

RIP in peace

- - Exponential Audio
- R2
- R2 Surround
- R4
- Phoenixverb
- Phoenixverb Surround
- Excalibur
- Nimbus

- - iZotope
- Iris 2
- Trash 2
- Breaktweeker

I'm repeating myself but it's such a shame iZotope do this. Fairly empty updates of RX and new products that nobody seems to want. Meanwhile discontinuing products that were wildly popular.

Iris and Trash were both brilliant. Iris could've used some more refinement and embellishment. Trash was great just as it was.

Honestly I really like Breaktweaker as well. It's a cracking drum machine even if you ignore the stutter part.

I'll keep using all 3 of these until I move away from Intel... Always bouncing and committing I suppose.

I suspect a big factor here is the consolidation of all this into SoundWorks. You've now got iZotope, Plugin Alliance, Native Instruments, etc. and a lot of overlap. And a natural management thing to do is come in and prune any duplication and relatively underperforming assets as you look at the portfolio.

If there were dedicated owners of these plugins in iZotope I wondered if they could have been moved out of iZotope to other companies within SoundWorks, but that then potentially means iZotope losing headcount/resources and in these kind of mergers fighting the other part of the company for resources is pretty common. And with SoundWorks owned by PE firm Francisco Partners there will be a lot of pressure on management to focus on financial performance.

That is mega lame. I am glad I bought the EA reverbs I have on sale for like $10.

Well that sucks, the Exponential Audio reverbs are some of the best in the industry. If they wanted to get rid of them, they should have sold them to another company, or let Michael Carnes take them back over.

Pretty sure they used what they bought for Neoverb.

Michael is active on this forum. I believe he’s retired from software development.

The RX10 update was lame at best. The Ozone 10 update took away the standalone version and gave us modules that I think few wanted. This is why on some forums the company has garnered the monicker of iZonope

I have Iris and don't use it all that much for the simple fact it isn't all that easy to understand. Like you said - could use some refinement. Losing Trash isn't surprising as there are way better saturation plugins out there.
