Comparing old ReverbOne with the new one??
Hey gang,
I'm happy to report that opening any instantiation of ReVibe from pre-AAX to the AAX version in Native sounds 'identical'. Good job, Avid!! Thanks! Different story, though, with ReverbOne forward compatibility. :-( Do any of you have a testing paradigm to verify what I'm finding? In each case that I've reopened an old session (with instantiations of ReverbOne TDM) I'd mixed in HD1 that I'm now opening in PT10 (non HD) - when I solo up the dry vocal in both locations - the reverb 'time' on the older version of ReverbOne is NOT the same as the new plugin - even though the all of the settings are identical in the TDM version of the plug or the AAX version. - identical.. Is the reverb time read out wrong in the 'old one'? I'd always wondered why reverb times of 1.4 or 1.5 sec in the TDM version would yield an apparent too 'long a tail' when a 1.4-1.5 tail length should sound pretty 'short drum room-like' with a plate OR a hall basic contour. What happens is when I open a vocal from an old session where the ReverbOne's tail length was set to 1.6 -- when I open it up in the AAX version now - it sounds very short -- no tail at all at 1.6. NOW after some fooling around -- when I DOUBLE the length value in the AAX version of ReverbOne THEN it sounds IDENTICAL to the TDM version. What's THAT about? And a 3.2 sec length 'sounds' like what I'm hearing. Can anybody confirm this for me? I would guess most of you prolly don't have a TDM rig AND a Native rig running PT10. I did my test by heading to one of the studios I work at with TDM PT8 still -- and cutting the vocal thru the TDM version of the plug and then bringing that soundbite home to the home rig and comparing against the AAX version.. So I don't know what's more right -- that the old TDM version of the plug had a 'halved' value for the reverb time readout or is it that the AAX version has the 'halved' value. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows anything about this. But I assure you - if you want 'compatibility' between old sessions using ReverbOne setting (all your presets) and the AAX version of the plug -- you'll need to 'double' the reverb time settings coming to the AAX version.. Weird.... Thanks!

Re: Comparing old RevervOne with the new one??
Hi there.
Are you using the DSP or Native version of the .aax Reverb One? Are you using an HDX card? Thanks.

I do not have HDX. Therefore I am using the aax native versions of both ReverbOne and Revibe. Though the topic of this thread is only about ReverbOne. Revibe works perfectly.

Update:
I just discovered today that the 'bug' in ReverbOne AAX only exists in 96K sessions. In 44.1/48 the reverb time and size settings are accurate to what you hear. But in 96k sessions all reverb time and 'size' settings sound 'halved' from the values in the read out. Completely repeatable bug and very noticeable. Where do you report bugs to Avid on the forum here?
