Default Microphones

Hi Guys, sorry if this posted in the wrong place, but could i use the vast experience available on this site and ask you all for your views on Microphones and Pre amps combinations.

I want it mainly for voiceovers, at present I use a "Neumann M147 tube" going into a "Focusrite 7"

Money isn't an issue, i want it to be the best i can get, and it's going into a new Pro-tools system using a 192 i/o.

Any suggestions (legal - please ) most welcome

For voiceover the standard for me is U87. From the sunny west coast we get alot of stuff recorded on a 416. For preamps we have Neve 1073s and Amek 9098s. I'm happy with them.

The John Hardy preamp is very popular pre. extremely clean, no coloration and tons of headroom. For a mic, you might want to get a few, an 87 and maybe a 416 is a good start. The TLM103 is a good cheaper alternative, and I prefer it on some VOs over the new 87s.

Money is not an issue?

Requisite Audio PAL Mice Pre. (Pacifica or Esoteric Audio Research 824 or D.W. Fearn VT-1)

Brauner VM1

UA 1176.

Lavry Gold Convertor.

(I am very happy with my Brauner Phantera-->John Hardy Twin Servo-->Neve Portico 5043-->Lavry Blue. doesn't suck.)

Hi there,
I agree with Brauner VM1 and I use it in combination with Pendulum Quartet.
It´s great, but VM1 could be used as a standalone. also.

Good luck

Jens

This is funny. I have three of these old bastards, but I never use them if I have my MKH50s/MKH60s/Cs-3es/Schoeps available (for location recording).

Just as a sideline do you want to sell those old bastard 416 mics?

Are they T-Power or 48v.

I used them through the 80's and still rate them for classic drama location sound.
