I sometimes sidechain to an audio track with a kick sample (or other strong transient) copied into a specific beat. I had posted the process and an example here a long time ago.

DOC's method is down and dirty, quick and easy, but also leaves the edges of the wavs all raw (might be what you're going for in this case, but not always). With the gate/sidechain method, you have more control over how smooth or rough the 'chops' are.

Yep! That's what I get for linking a year old post.


And doc, yeah you can put fades on them, but if you decide you don't like the fades, want them longer or shorter, changing them can be a little tedious. A little extra up front effort makes it a little more flexible (for me, anyway) especially if you are at the whim of a client.

I guess it's all a matter of how you like to work. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

True..... but I hate gates, so I cut... Grid mode rules if you get a band to play to it...

I just fixed this too, so you can listen to the examples now. Had a couple of emails asking me to fix it, but it was so old I had to re-build it.
