Default Altiverb XL + Stereo/Quadro IRs - Good for LCR?

Hi there,

I wonder how others use Altiverb for sounds which are panned off center in LCR configuration.

For louder things that draw the viewer's attention, simply panning a mono reverb is not good enough IMHO especially in bigger spaces.

In most cases I use Phoenix Surround reverb on a LCR or 5.0 bus for this. But sometimes I'd like to use Altiverb because some of its IRs were a perfect match for the dialogues or in Speakerphone.

Unfortunately most of the IRs (if not all) are only stereo-stereo or stereo-quadraphonic. Now I wonder if it's OK to just turn up the center level control in Altiverb? Is this simply the sum of the left and right responses?

Thanks

RTFM!

Quote:
Outputs a delayed sum of the rear channel into the center channel to fix possible gaps. In-tended for post production usage to prevent dry dialogue in the center channel, or gaps in the reverb image in wide theater setups. For all musical purposes the recommended setting is all the way down (no center bleed).
Interesting approach...
But not good for stereo mixdown.

Are you using Altiverb XL? Depending on the IR, that might help.

Ah yes. It's the XL. I added it to the title. Thanks!

It's on a 5.0 bus hence I shows level adjustments for front, rear and center.

I use Spanner after Altiverb to toe it into the centre when using it on dialogue.

I've always just turned up the center control.
It never seems to cause a problem.

Hard to believe but I don't have Spanner

What does it do, it calculates a real center, like M/S processing?

That's reassuring! You also did stereo downmixes?
