thanks
Two hints for reference:
When you download the PT version you want save the installer off to a safe place. That way you have it when you need it. Do that with all your installers.

Second: when installing a new version of PT on a Mac rename the existing one so when you install the new one you can still have the old one ready to use. Using that method I have four versions of PT on my Mac.

Here's a new one: My M and / keys, which normally jump six frames forward/back (if my nudge is set to one frame) are now... only going a single frame? They're basically duplicates of the comma and period keys, now. Can anyone else confirm?

Well, the Lord giveth, but apparently not if you want Heat on DSP for mixdown.
Avid says that everyone will be using native processing for mixdown, so theres no point in having Heat on DSP anymore. DSP is for tracking only.

I beg to differ.

Everyone has been getting on just fine mixing through their DSP systems, because we had no choice.
Why should we give up this workflow?
Many of us have older Macs and PCs, as there was little point in upgrading when the HDX cards took the strain. Do we now dutifully truck off and buy new machines to do the job HDX was doing well?
I know its only a small point, but it indicates Avid have small knowledge of how some people work.
Or they couldn't get it coded in time...

but you (and everyone) still has "classic HDX" engine a restart of the app away.

so nothing is lost.

just a tick box in 2021.6

This is indeed true, and thats whats going to happen.
I had just hoped for a smoother combination of the two processes, as we kinda had before.
2021.3.1 with 2048 voices would have been cool, but there's always a price.

Cool deal
I've DL'ed it but will wait to install and try.

I hope Avid will.... revamp the HD Native line and call it something like "Carbon Card" or "HDX Native" for about $2000. Basically take the 8 DSP card out of the Carbon Interface and make it stand-alone on a PCIe card or in a thunderbolt box. What could it look like... imagine the HD Native card or the HD Native TB unit with 8 DSP chips.

Modern computers are fast(and getting faster), ProTools has been revamped, and a lot of people don't need a new I/O interface or new mic pres. Currently the HD Native TB unit is $1000, the HDX card is $4000, and Carbon is $4000.

I haven't had any beachballs, but it feels really laggy. I'm on a MBP16 with 32gig of ram, OS 11.4. Going to go through and make sure all my plugins are up to date.

Unfortunately I had to go back to 2021.3.1 until Avid gets it right. Too many issues...
