Default Macbook Pro 16 Inch + Dock for PT

Sorry if this is the wrong section.

We switched to a new 16inch I9 MBP a few months ago and have been watching closely the performance with PT and a few other apps.

Of course the fans always raise when PT is loaded, but I am also noticing that while using an OWC usb-c dock the battery power starts to drop only while using PT.

I've done a little research on some mac support sites, and I understand there are docks that provide more power etc.

What is everyone else using?

At the office I'm using a USB - C m-audio interface and in the mixing suite I am using a tb2 Focusrite clarett 4 pre.

I'm using an OWC 14-port Thunderbolt3 dock with a 2019 i9 MBP and haven't noticed any issues with battery or charging. There was an article out about making sure to charge MBPs from the right side: https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/pro...-in-the-studio

Also, I have found that using the free TurboBoostSwitcher to turn off Turbo Boost (overclocking), has helped to considerably reduce fan noise on my MacBook Pro. http://tbswitcher.rugarciap.com

Is there any performance drop from turning off TB?

I don't use VI's, so I'm not usually pushing my system to the absolute limit. I'm guessing that there is a slight drop in performance when the temperature is low, but as soon as things start to heat up, the CPUs get throttled when TurboBoost is on, anyway. Best bet is to try it for yourself and see if it works for you. It's free and it's easy to just turn it off if it isn't working out.

Uh the CPUs love being cold. They don't need to warm up to perform, actually the opposite. Look at the overclocking folks playing with liquid nitrogen and other exotic coolers.

Yeah, badly worded on my part. I meant that when the CPU is cold, there is a boost in performance with TurboBoost on (slight drop in performance with TurboBoost switched off), but that they will quickly heat up that way and actually end up being underclocked by the system to cool them down.

I have a similar set up; 2019 MBP16" (and a Mac LED Cinema Display) with OWC TB3 Dock. I also use Turbo Boost Switcher and it has helped with reducing CPU throttling. I have not experienced battery drop.
