Third import, same as second.

I used to Logic to import the mp3 (with no issues) and export as a wav. I understand this is only a workaround but it's obviously a bug if Logic can take the same exact file and import it clean.

Avid, please check into this issue as this is sometimes a crucial part of my daily workflow when working with student projects.
I just experienced this tonight. After converting my mp3 into the session, there are pops in the file, visible in the waveform. I tried a few different ways but kept getting the pops, but playing the file outside of PT- no pops. Like others mentioned above- when I select the mp3 in the Import Audio dialog, PT thinks the file is a Quicktime 32 bit file.

So after losing 15 mins with that, I loaded up Cubase and dragged it in, then exported as wav. Brought that into PT and everything was fine. So what is going on with this mp3 encoder? I notice most of you are on Mac but I'm on PC/Windows 10, Pro Tools Ultimate. Really damn annoying. Need a fix for this. I know using mp3s isn't ideal, but lots of people send me them for post production sounds.

This is a reason it would be nice to allow us access to all the versions of 2021, 2021, etc. Reading the other thread I saw this is not happening in 2021.7. Would be nice if I could download that again, but it's no longer in my account, only 2021.12.

Well I can happily report that this dangerous bug is fixed in the new Pro Tools 2022.4 release.
I see no acknowledgment in any of the release pdfs. Perhaps I missed it.

I did an import with that same MP3 I originally reported about both before and after doing the update.
Here's a screenshot, with Pro Tools 2021.12 at the top, and Pro Tools 2022.4 below it.

Yes, and thank you for the info you provided that helped us with this! Should be listed in https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...-Release-Notes

This is broken again in 2022.12

Running Mac Mini M1, Monterey.

Drag and drop mp3 onto the timeline results in digital distortion, noise, etc.
