Avid Dock assigning to wheel

Greetings,

Is there a way to assign something to wheel without using any other buttons on the dock?

I like to have wheel to function as clip gain, but don't want to press a key first to activate it.

All wheel functions first require a triggered switch to enable the assigned function.

Is this something that can be implemented with software for firmware update?
it seems like waste of functionality when we can't use it on its own.
my wishlist would be assigning control room knob, clip gain and scroll.
