Trying to Get Around the PLAY/PAUSE Bug

I'd like a real fix for my PLAY/PAUSE issues, but here is how I've been getting around it.

I first have to turn my MacBook Pro ON with the Firewire connection to my interface UNplugged. Without the interface connected, I open a ProTools session, when asked if I'd like a detailed report because my I/O setting have changed, I say NO....after the session opens I immediately shut down ProTools, and the MacBook. Completely off.

I then plug the firewire in to connect my interface to my MacBook while everything is turned off. After the firewire is connected, I turn on my interface, then turn on my MacBook, open a Protools session, answer NO to whether or not I'd like a detailed report because my I/O settings have changed, and bingo! NO PLAY/PAUSE issues.

If I start my interface and MacBook up initially without following the previous steps, I ALWAYS get the PLAY/PAUSE bug and can't do a thing with a session until I shut down everything and start from scratch with the above steps.

I am on Lion 10.7.3 and Protools 10.0. I'm afraid to update to 10.1.
