Drop you TDM plugs and use your MacPro to run RTAS. Why the need to waste money on this grossly over priced aluminum shell?

I was a big fan of them but, this is ridiculous. I can't believe they upped the price on this thing like that. It's a PCIe expander chasis not a cpu!!!!! You can buy a new MAC for that price. You have got to be kidding. I have one more HD ACCEL PCIe card that I was going to put in the new Magma Chasis but, uuummmm, wellllll, let's see how much the 4 slot will be. They will lose a lot of money for this slip up. I bought my 6 slot back in 2001 for $1,200, the 7 slots were $1,500 and the 13 slots were $2,200. I can't imagine how much the 13 slot will be. Hahaha.....Please, somebody tell them before they go bankrupt or Digidesign buy's them out....

That's just my thoughts on this....Somebody must have geeked them up to charge that much.

So the question is ... "Does Digidesign yet support "expanded" PCIE HD Accel systems?"
If so what is the limit for number of PCIE Accel cards in a system?

To me the days of adding TDM Cards for the purpose of running plugins are long gone. Why would you want to? The MacPro can run as many RTAS as you need. Why the need to use TDM Plugs unless you want to track through them.

Nope not for me we just did a live to tape mix 48 tracks with SSL Channels on every tack and multitrack recorded at the same time.
Not possible as RTAS plug-ins go into bypass when you record enable on a TDM system.

From Magma on 18 Jan 2008:

"The ExpressBox7 (EB7) is currently going through the process to get Digidesign qualified. I think they are a little bit back up at the moment, however we have tested this solution with ProTools and it works great with a MacPro – full track counts.

There is (1) 82.5 CFM fan in the chassis designated to cool the PCIe cards. However, you will have an option to turn off the fan and it will only kick on when necessary (thermistor controlled).

EB7 – ExpressBox7 – PCI Express to PCI Express expansion system – Price: $2799."

Yes Magma prices are completely ridiculous! I guess they do not have much sales volume to support their product development etc. . . Last Magma expansion chassis I purchased was obsolete in less than a year (Mix to HD) and I could only sell it for 25% of the purchase value. . .
