Does anyone know of a giant list that explains all types of plug ins, and to be used?

I am still new to recording, and I would like a list that explains what different types of plug ins are for. I know how to compress, eq, you know the basic stuff. I'm just looking for something that explains about plug ins that you don't hear much about like saturation, or something like that. Thank you.

Best place to start would be the product page for each plug in question. There will be highlights of what it's capabilities are, then google any terms you don't understand. Google does a pretty decent job of finding long phrases of info. Such as "what would I use a saturation plug in for in pro tools".

The book "mixing secrets" by Mike Senior does a good job of explaining different effects.
