Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
I get a lot of strange CPU overload due to USB bus messages, even when running say one stereo track with two Waves plugins on it. I seem to recall a thread from a while ago recommending using on USB port over the other, but I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone know which USB port will give the best operation with an Mbox Mini? (I also had this problem with an Mbox2). Thanks for any help!
Shawn

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
First: Check to see what your playback engine is set at. Higher buffer size could help.
Second: I believe it's the USB port closest to your power. Third: Try using a firewire external hard drive as opposed to a USB. Fourth: I get a lot of unneccesary overload errors when using my MBox on my MacBook. Just from touching the track-pad during play and/or record (that one sucks the most!!), it'll stop and give me the error. I don't know why or how to fix that one... Best of luck, -Ryan

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
Ok, thats the USB port I'll try then. I already have my Buffer Size maxed out, and use a Firewire 800 hard drive. Its really driving me crazy. I have a MacBook Pro 2.4ghz with 2gb, the latest model. Running OS10.4.11. I really can't figure out why my $2500 computer overloads on one stereo track with three plugins on it. What gives? Thanks!

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
I have a 2.16 core 2 duo Macbook pro, and I have 3gb of RAM and that makes the biggest difference for me. I just installed it yesterday and I was running BFD w/no problems. I was recording to my system drive and had the BFD samples daisy chained between my 002 rack and my MBP and it still worked great. You can max your RAM out w/4GB and I suggest that you do that. Also fw800 isn't supported, so you may want to try fw400 instead. Make sure that your external drive uses the oxford 911 chipset. You should also get a 7200 rpm internal drive. You can get those from newegg.com and you can get the ram from ramjet.com

While 4gb is always a good thing, you don't need more than 2gb to run protools. Either way he shouldn't be having problems with 3 tracks on his mbp.

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
Thats exactly my point, I've gotten more tracks out of my horrible and horribly configured Dell laptop than I am with this top of the line machine. I am using the latest and greatest Waves versions, the LL316 is definitely a hog, but it shouldn't be like this. I'm going to try it with an 002RK and see if that helps. Shawn

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
You're starting to freak me out, is there a known problem of "incompatibility" between usb Mbox's and macbook, is it just with the waves plugs, or is it for a unlucky few?
(I have an mbox 1 and I'm buying a macbook..as soon as you know the leopard stuff) |

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
Well, in my experiences... it's not a Leopard issue. It's only been a MacBook issue with my MBox. It'd stop playback/recording just from touching the trackpad or any key. Not ALL the time, but a LOT. I also use the 002 and 003, never a problem there. ONLY the MBox.

Re: Prefered USB port on MacBook Pro?
FW800 is supported up to 4 drives. It's the MBox 2 Pro that's not supported for FW800. This isn't your problem, but you should check the chipset on the drive. If it's not Oxford it's a shot in the dark.
Use the USB port next to the power connection. You shouldn't be having these problems. Is there anything else on a second USB port that requires bus power?
