Hi,
Im researching Pro Tools. Is there a software version that includes all of the instruments? Which DAW version do most people buy? Also, Whats the best AI available from Digidesign in the 300US range? I don't know if I have found all of the available products yet or not. Thanks. |

for only $300US, you can just about afford the 2nd smallest and 2nd cheapest Digi interface, the Mbox 2 Mini.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MBox2Mini/ if you get that interface, it will come with Pro Tools 8 which has a bunch of pretty great instruments such as DB-33 (organ), Mini Grand (piano), Boom! (drum machine, fairly limited), Vacuum (kind of moog-ish, ARP-ish synth), Hybrid (synth) and Xpand! (another synth, tons and tons of sounds.... strings, horns, etc). it's definitely more than enough to get you started. i'd recommend saving up just a bit more and go for at least the MBox 2, not the mini. You'll find one mic input pretty limiting soon enough. Also, i'd also recommend waiting to see what gems, if any, Digidesign comes out with at NAMM.

Thanks!
I see now there are three digi design MBOx AI's, and they all come with the DAW, so thats perfect. And thanks for the Aurora link, too. I wonder if I should get the firewire AI, and buy a good firewire card (computer doesn't have one right now) because I wonder if it will reduce any latency, but if latency is compensated for and it all runs smoothely on USB, maybe I'll just get the USB. Thats really a good deal, the M Box. |

i'd recommend USB... but i'm just having a lot of problems with FireWire at the moment.
