Default Quick Q - Deleting audio files from disk

Lately I've had some time to go through and clean up old sessions by deleting unused files and clearing out some disk space. I'm using "select all unused" (cmd+shift+U) and then clear (cmd+shift+B), and choose to delete files from disk. I then sit for 5-10mins holding the enter key while I get a warning message for each file... is there a way to bypass these warnings??

holding down option when you click delete will do it for you... Just quickly review what has been highlighted before you do this, to make sure you aren't inadvertently deleting anything you don't want!

You can also delete them in the PROJECT window, which is my preference as it confirms the session knows they'll not be looked for any longer. I've tried it the other way mentioned by humpback and have had varied results, sometimes with PT looking for the missing files next time I open.

Can you describe your process?

The bigger problem with the conventional way is that it still leaves a lot of files in the session that it doesn't really need. Very flawed.

if you mean in the audio file folder, yes, that bugs me too.
caused by the undo queue...
other than manually deleting the files, i find the cleanest way to shrink the folders is after "select unused" to "save copy in" and check all audio files.

not efficient, but effective for what the op is trying to accomplish.

always best to make a back up first before using this method...

I don't know how they get created, but you also need to delete unused playlists. Closing and reopening the session will clear the undo buffer, I believe.

Go up to the WINDOW menu, I think, and pull down to PROJECT. Now click on the triangle next to the AUDIO folder and all of your files show-up. Shift-click on the ones to lose, go up to the mini-menu in the top-left corner of the window (depending on the version you're running) and pull down to DELETE.

Even making a session copy doesn't help. It just copies all the files that are getting "stuck" in your session. From the undo queue or any other bug.

Try it.

Delete all unused files then select all the tracks in the edit window and "select all" and view the region list and notice all the non-highlighted regions still in there.

So it's completely manual.

Sounds dangerous.
