Default Configuring Hardware Inserts in Pro Tools 6.1.1

I have a focusrite Platinum Compressor in which I'm trying to hook up as a hardware insert on Pro Tools but I seem to be having a hard time understanding the directions. It should just work like a standard plugin just as a I/O insert, simple enough right? So this is my confuguration. In order to hook the focusrite compressor up as an insert you must have a "Y" stereo 1/4 TRS plug. from the manual this insert port on the compressor is used for external devices. From what I can gather in Pro Tools that you take one end of the plug and connect it into an empty output and the other end into an empty input, to account for your send and return. So I allocated output and input 8 on my digi 001. I set up my track with my vocal parts and added an I/O insert and selected analog 8 becuase thats what it's on and i can see the compressor working when i hit play on pro tools. The thing i can't figure out is why i don't hear any sound. i'm not sure if you have to configure any setting in the I/O setup. I have tried to delete my stereo inserts 7/8 and made 2 mono instead and label 8 as the focusrite compressor. Still no sound what so ever. take the insert off the channel and I hear sound. I've tried every configuration i can think of for the past three days and no luck. any help with telling me exactly the steps to get this done right. Please don't refer me to the PT reference guide or manauls becuase I have read them all and still no luck. I need something very detailed so i can fully understand. Thanks..............Mike

Hey htp,

You got it right except your y cable is wrong. Take a regular 1/4 out of the channel 7 out, on the back of the Digi001, into your focusrite inpute. Take another 1/4 out of the focusrite and return it to 7 in on the back of the Digi001. If stereo, do the same with channel 8. Unless of course the focusrite has a single insert for send and return, but I've never seen one.

Hope this helps.

Ter
