Default Best Mac Pro choice for PT LE and beyond....?

I'm hoping someone can enlighten me about which new Mac Pro to choose.

I've been a RADAR user since 2001, but have been transitioning into Pro Tools 8 LE on my MacBook Pro. I love mixing ITB and I'm ready to up the ante with a better rig. I realize that Avid will introduce something later this year to replace PT HD, so I've been holding out and using my old Digi 002 rack for the time being.

Now that the new Mac Pros are coming out I'm wondering if Pro Tools can access all that power in their Native systems..? I want to buy a MP that will help me jump to whatever Avid serves up next, but also be a great machine now.

How many cores? How much memory, etc?

Any wisdom is appreciated!

I'm looking for some specific answers. I searched the forums and could only find people saying buy the most computer you can afford.

My question is really how much performance difference will I see between 4 core, 6 core, 8 core, 12 core? How much memory can PT LE use? etc.

Also, what is a recommended hard drive set-up? RAID card necessary?

These are all questions that have been ainswered/are part of basic Pro Tools system requirements.

As was said... get the most computer you can afford.

If you can afford a quad, get a quad. If you can afford a 12-core, get a 12-core. The more resources the better, it really is that simple.

Hard drives... go by the system requirements for Pro Tools. RAID is not supported. You need a second drive for you sessions, ideally a 3rd for VIs, etc, etc....

No it is not. Buy a used macpro, you'll be much happier. I have a first generation and have not come close to maxing it out!

Well of course, I'll be getting an older model Mac Pro soon, myself. The older 8-cores have come down a lot, and will continue to.

As was said... what you can afford. If I had 6k to spend on a computer, I would probably get a 12-core, lol.

If you haven't tried one, how do you even know that 12 cores would be any better?
