Armed Tracks Go Silent When Other Tracks Play

I am sorry if this is a stupid question.

I have a digiRack 003, running PTLE 8.0.

I recorded some drum tracks, everything's great.

Coming back the next day, if I arm a new track, I can hear (for example) the bass guitar input via Input4, mic/DI. Everything's great.

However, as soon as I hit play or record (again, the new track is armed), I can hear the other tracks but the new input (bass in this example) goes silent, meters go dead, nothing is recorded to disk.

This is driving me crazy - can anyone offer some assistance?

You have to "Input Monitor" by pressing Option+K or "Hit Record" (f12 or Cmd+Spacebar) to hear the inputs.
