Default recording vocals??

I'm trying to record someone's vocals and I just want to know how to set up headphones and speakers. how can you set them up so I can hear the recording through the speakers and the singer is able to hear the recording through the headphones at the same time??is this how you supposed to set up, to avoid the sound of the mix going into the vocals??

If your both in the same room and are happy with the same mix a budget headphone amp will suffice allowing you to mute the main monitors and both still be able to monitor through the cans.

Behringer do a cheapy for around 30GBP.

this should be best. Also Samson, Art and Lake People have nice, cheap Headphone amp/splitters too.

You should really find space in another room to set up the mic for the singer. Then you can still use your control speakers, use a extension cord to the headphone amplifier out of the Mbox headphone out. Also you should find a way to control volume without using the Mbox volume knob. That is how I do it and it works great.

This is ideal, but you can do the job with a headphone "Y" cable so both you and the singer are on headphones(remember to not tap your foot.....). I find that if you have a mix going already that sounds reasonable, pushing the vocal track fader to +6 or so will make it sound good for the singer while they record. When you finish recording, drag the fader back down and add in your plugins as needed(I usually have an EQ for hi-pass, then a compressor, and an AUX send to an AUX track for reverb or delay(or both).

Or you can prepare two tracks, one is set up for recording with the right volume and a recording Reverb and so on, the other one has all the plug Ins, you want for your mix. So you record on the first track, then you drag the region right down to the "mix-track", so within a second you get to listen, how your vocal will sound in the mix.
