Temporary Ultimate subcription - would this affect my Studio perpetual license?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been answered already but I haven't been able to find this specific situation.

Next month I'm about to sit the PT 210P exam again, having failed it first time around

I have a PT Studio Perpetual license and despite Studio incorporating some features that were previously only available in Ultimate, there's a strong focus on Ultimate-only features in the exam questions e.g. video editing, field recorder guide tracks etc.

I'm thinking of subscribing to PT Ultimate for one month until the exam. This way I can go through the book again but have the right version of the software to hand. A lot of the questions are quite fiddly and for me really demand repeated practice on Ultimate itself.

My Perpetual plan expired earlier this year and I'm not in a hurry to renew it, although I will in future. My question is, if I subscribe to Ultimate for a month, will this cause any issues with my current license? I'm specifically thinking of a situation where I cancel the Ultimate subscription, and I have to pay to start using my PT Studio Perpetual license again.

If anybody knows of any pitfalls here, I'd love to hear about them.

Hi dissolveaudio,

Don't worry, if you're going to purchase a new monthly subscription for Pro Tools Ultimate, that won't affect your existing Pro Tools Studio Perpetual license. Once you're done with the monthly subscription and have it expired you can purchase a Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade for your PT studio.

As long as you don't "trade-in" your perpetual license for a discount on the subscription. Which is something Avid has done before.
