Default Why is does my D-verb sound like a tape echo that changes speed randomly??

Just one of the 1.000.000 stupid errors that came with this 8.0.3. update... I assume this is some sort of a clock problem... But all settings seem to be correct.

Basically the reverb tail changes pitch randomly up and down, at random moments as well... not constantly.

This is quite annoying, as the only other reverbs i have are really cpu heavy. And with the constant "cpu overload" (there is a thread about this somewhere) problems that also came with this update, i don't really want to use them.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Also - does anyone know what exactly changed from the pre-release to the full release of 8.0.3. I had no serious problems with the PR, but i have spent 3 days now constantly force quitting pro-tools after i updated. I'm thinking of going back to the PR if possible...

oh yeah sorry, this is on Snow Leopard (obviously) and with Digi002. Haven't yet seen if this problem persists if i use another interface.

Yes, this a very annoying issue. It's a PT8 thing. This topic has come up before but I guess Digi seems to think it's ok to have a reverb tail pitching all over the place when that's exactly what you DON'T want...

so a lot of people have this issue?

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the fact that i frequently get this error:

"lost communication with audio interface, please try increasing h/w buffer size or remove some plugins, and make sure you have a valid clock source. Press OK to reset device (-6097)"
I get it even if i'm not even playing... doesn't matter the number of plugins or tracks.. just happens seemingly randomly.

i dunno... a change in pitch of stuff usually seems to point to a clock source error.. and this talks about clock source.

hmm hmm... very annoying indeed.

I have done an uninstall, then clean install of 8.0 and stopped at 8.0cs3. 8.03 wasn't working for me at all so I ran back to something safe. Still took a couple of days to sort it out.

Some wise guy added a chorus effect to D-Verb in 8. This was exposed a while back by someone performing the D-Verb Test. This test is often used to score a newly built system.

selling software was a bad idea, started back when bill gates got pissed he was working so hard on stuff that people were just giving away

and now we buy HARDWARE that would do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING if the software didn't work...

times have changed

but one thing's for sure, software still doesn't work

If I know it well, this phenomenon with d-verb is the normal behaviour. Like it, or not.

Try using Redline Reverb.

They do a 60 day free trial.

It isn't cpu heavy

Sounds great

Costs $149, but they have a few discounts available.

I never use D-verb, so I don't even know if it's working on my system.

Somewhere here on Digidesign.com last week I stumbled accross a download link for the older 7.4 Dverb. I spent about three hours looking for it last night and couldn't find it. If yu have a version of 7.4 around all you need to do is replace the 8.0 Dverb in the plugins folder with the 7.4 version. Hopefully Digi will fix this or add a on off switch for the chorus effect.

ah this would be great!
I actually quite like d-verb, i think it's a very underrated reverb. Would not use it on something delicate such as strings or vocals but as an effect it can be really nice.

and thanks JazzyJ, i'll check out Redline Reverb and hope Digi gives us an update in the next 60 days :)
