Default Pro Tools LE 7, Reason Adapted, Keystation 61es

Well hello everyone. I am just another person with another problem. I just bought my first Digi Design system, an 002 Factory, and it arrived a couple days ago. Well of course there are always pains with installation and my case is no different. So here is the problem I having. I am running Pro Tools LE 7, Reason Adapted, and a Keystation 61es. When I start up Pro Tools everything is fine, but then when I start up Reason Adapted after pro tools is open, I get an error saying "Reason couldn't set up the control surfaces properly". Now my guess is that Pro Tools takes control of the Keystation when it loads and then Reason Adapted can't access it because Pro Tools has it locked down. Of course I could be wrong, which I am more than I would like. I have tried to find in Pro Tools, and option that would make pro tools not load midi devices on startup, but to my disgust I could not. Is there anyone out there who has had this same problem and can help me out?

You would be correct.

Just create an instrument or MIDI track in PT, set the MIDI input of that track to be the keystation, and the output to be whatever device in Reason you are trying to control.

If you absolutely must have the controller work within reason, and it's connected via USB, there is a bit of a workaround that you might find useful:
  • unplug the controller from the computer
  • start Pro Tools
  • plug the controller back in and wait for windows to detect it
  • start Reason
Reason should now be able to see your controller.

Thank you for the quick response. I will give that a shot when I get home tonight and let you know how it goes.
