Default Need help on filtering

Recently i've been trying to do some of my own remixes of songs. basically i want to remove the drums (filtering or whatever) from the track so i can put my own drum line to it. its really bothering me, perhaps its simple or maybe pro tools is the wrong program for it. can any one help?

while its here, if anyone has done remixes of songs... lets hear them!

Are you trying to take the drums out of a file, like a wave or MP3? Or do you have access to the orignal multi-track session? There are some programs out there that claim to remove things from a single file, like vocals and such. They don't really work, though.

There IS a plugin out there (from one of the many Waves bundles maybe?) that works based on the panning of the file. Since vocals are mostly center and guitars typically panned, you could use it to extract vocals (bass would be center too, but some clever EQ can help that.) Also you could take guitars and eliminate vocals if you eliminate the center. Since drums are usually panned left, right, and center in some fashion, I would think it would be nearly impossible to get a good result of removing drums.

I have to agree. Removing drums from a mix is going to be an exercise in frustration at best. You may be better off using the original track as a guide and re-recording all the parts over again with new drums. Now you can augment the track by adding to it. Like pasting a new snare drum(on its own track) to line up with the recorded snare, or adding cymbals here and there. But taking away what's there is not going to work.

yer im basically trying to get the same mp3 file without the drums. i suppose it would be technically impossible to filter it without removing other aspects of the song so i was just wondering how to get the song without the drums in the beginning. is it possible to access multi-track sessions? or maybe i have to just use the original track as a guide and re-record all the parts over again as albee1952 said.

Try these, they may help...
  1. Remix Master Class
  2. Remix Master Class - Getting Started
  3. Remix Master Class - Adding Effects and Instruments

Well, I may be wrong, but I always figured that artist's who remix/sample songs usually use the original sessions, but usually have access by either some industry insider, or the sampled artist is on the same label or something, so they can have some strange "authoritative" way of coming by the multi-tracks by paying royalties and such. I'm probably horribly misinformed, though.
