Default Driver install issues with LE7 and MBOX 2 PRO on

Hello,

I'm a new user to protools (but started doing music on a computer on a mac 15 years ago ...) and I got myself the mbox2 pro factory for xmas, on a big dell dual core with 2 gigs.
I have been able to use protools 2 hours since i bought it, and I have a an issue where i'm told that the only solution is to reinstall all my PC ... which i would like to avoid.

Here is the issue:

I cannot have a stable installation of the mbox2pro. after numerous installs, deinstalls, in 7 and 7.3, it looks like i cannot install the drivers of the mbox2pro. I have a "!" on the mbox symbol in the peripherals management window, and it says "windows cannot start the device, error 10". Of course, the mbox works fine, as I've been able to install it on my wife's machine.
It did work at some point, so I suspect that there is some file staying hidden somewhere that the installer does not like, but the standard "remove programs" does not fix it;

I've been advised my the european tech support to go in the registry to remove protools entries, whiwh i did, but there are also tons of mbox2 entries there ... and I'm scared to make too many changes in the registry as I understand it may f***k my whole configuration.

So if anyone knows how to do surgery on the digidesign drivers, i will welcome the information, il will save my week end reinstalling windows !

I'm surprised that it is so difficult to install products from a well established brand like digidesign .

Thank you, whoever can help me. Free bottle of champagne offered if you come to Paris

Philippe

Default Re: Driver install issues with LE7 and MBOX 2 PRO

Well, I have some bad news for you. Well, Digidesign does, really, I'm just the messenger (and please don't shoot the messenger ).

Please read the Mbox2 Pro compatibility page carefully. Your bad news is located there.

Specifically:
Quote:
Please Note: Models that offer Intel Core 2 Duo laptop processors (codename Merom) are currently not officially supported or qualified with Digidesign products. Currently only the Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processors (codename Conroe) have been qualified.
and
Quote:
Not Supported — Known Incompatibility

The Dell Precision M65 and M90 are Incompatible with Digidesign FireWire Peripherals
I couldn't really tell the model number from the sandra post, and I don't think that either the m65 or the m90 come with the T7200 (I think they are both T7600), but I would imagine a similar model Dell might use similar parts, and contain the same compatibility problem. (which is why it works on your wife's machine and not yours)

So, it's not a file, its hardware related. Your only solution is to use it on a different computer, I'm afraid.

Hi SPKguitar,
Thanks for your answer ... even if it's not really what I'd like to hear ! still what puzzles me is that the hardware did work for a while and then went to lalaland. And then I think : if it did work, it should work again ! I think that i'l going to reinstall my PC and if it still does not work, I'll buy a little mac, this was not planned in the budget !!! Which configuration do you use ?
Thanks and have a great day
Philippe

Specs of my current systems are in the "Gear" link in my signature, however, I have plans to replace the laptop that I use with one of the new MacBooks ASAP.
