I\'ve come back into the fold - New 003 Rack
Finally, bite the bullet and got a 003r, replacing my 001 - actually the 001 still works find, but keeping a legacy system around has become a real pain in the butt.
Though I did (keeping fingers crossed) manage to avoid the whole 002 power harness era. I was pleased that everything installed and runs just fine with no special shenanigans needed on my part.

I haven't gotten into all the newest stuff. I like the Xpand and Structure free plug-ins. The mute button is nice. I did a quick test and can still record all the inputs, even on my old machine.
I have been trying to get by with Ableton Live, but it's just not there yet for recording or editing. Great for loops and stuff though.

I've been using the 002 Rack since it came to the market, with never a problem. What is the "power harness era"?

Re: I\'ve come back into the fold - New 003 Rack
Have an 002R myself. No power harness issues amazingly either. My 001 worked flawlessly the whole time I had it, too.
The "power harness" era was when the 002 and 002Rs had faulty power harnesses that needed to be replaced. The symptom was that it would lose connectivity with your computer and the lights would go off. The difference between PT 6.7 and 7.3 is quite a bit. Expand is great - one of the best things Digi has ever done to the program. I hope your 003 is as stable as the 001 was.

NEVER SAY NEVER when it comes to the 002 family power harness.
Purchase my 002R on 3/26/04 worked flawlessly until last week 9/27/07 when it started and wouldn't go away. That was more than 3 years of long daily hours and trouble free life. I knew for sure I was immune. |

Re: I\'ve come back into the fold - New 003 Rack
I was looking at one of the last 002r out there, but I ended up going for a 003r. It seemed to me that for awhile there a lot of the people getting 002's where having power harness problems. Or at least a lot of the DUC users.
I don't know what it is about PT, but I find myself focusing on making music as opposed to getting things to work. Now I'm looking into getting some better mic cables so I can mic up my drum kit a bit better.

Re: I\'ve come back into the fold - New 003 Rack
The day that I decided to upgrade from 001 to 002R, I called digidesign to do so and they told me "guess what we just released the 003's today. Talking about coincidence, I order the 003R right on the spot and he told me I was the first order. I 'm really happy with making that decision, the 003R is great. I love the separate headphone mix option.
