Temporarily use someone's Ultimate license

Hi, I have the regular Pro Tools installed on my iMac, but I want to use my school's Ultimate license on my home computer. I can bring the iLok with the Ultimate license. Can I install PT Ultimate software (without buying) and use that iLok to run it? Can I have both Pro Tools and Pro Tools Ultimate installed on the same machine, and choose which one to open (Ultimate with the school's iLok or Pro Tools regular with my iLok)? Thanks for all advice.

Hi, welcome to the community.

PT standard and PT ultimate are the same install, what you have on your iLok determines which features are open/locked. If your buddy loans you iLok with Ultimate license that is enough to get you Ultimate features.

As Janne said, or tried to say, you install pro tools, and the license on the ilok you have plugged in determines if you have Ultimate features or not.

What they said^^^ The only potential wrinkle is if you have both iLoks connected and PT sees the "vanilla" license, which might make it NOT open as Ultimate. The easy solution is to de-activate the "vanilla" license while you have the Ultimate iLok in your possession.

PT should scan all licenses on all iloks, and once it sees the Ultimate asset the Ultimate features are unlocked

If you have Ultimate then that will always be the version to start first so no worries having two iloks and a vanilla license on one of them. PT alsays starts with Ultimate if that license is available.
