HELP ME! 6.0 Crashing Constantly
I've been using protools for several years now.
I have a g4 duel 867, 1GB RAM. I'm currently using 6.0 on OS 10.2.3. Why is my computer freezing all the time? Sometimes it freezes during play back, sometimes it freezes while loading, sometimes it loads and then freezes, it's driving me crazy. This only happens with protools. I have musicians come over for sessions and my computer freezes. It's humiliating. sould I just switch back to OS 9 or what? I would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thanks, tactics |

Re: HELP ME! 6.0 Crashing Constantly
This is a quote from Digi Tech Support from another thread.
What type of hard drives are you using for Pro Tools sessions? What application was used to format the drives? Are you doing anything specifically when Pro Tools quits? If so, what is it? For Unexpected Quits, check the following: How much RAM is installed? You will need a minimum of 384MB of RAM, 512 or more is preferred. Any third party RAM that does not meet Apple's specs should be removed from the system. Trash Pro Tools preferences Go to Users > ?your user name? > Library > Preferences and trash DAE Prefs, DigiSetup.OSX and Pro Tools LE 6.0 prefs. Then restart the CPU. Make sure all drives are formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+) with OS X?s Disk Utility. Pro Tools can not use UFS or HFS volumes for audio drives. Try quitting Pro Tools and launching Apple's "Disk Utility" application. Select your boot drive (or any other drive that's having a problem), go to First Aid and select "Repair Disk Permisions." Apple recommends doing this any time an OS update or reinstall is done with OS X. Make sure no other applications are running in the background. Classic Mode can cause a lot of problems. Confirm that classic mode is not launching on startup. Make sure energy saver is set to never. Confirm the date is set correctly on the Mac and that you are not using 24 hour time. You may also want to try clearing the cache with an application like Jaguar Cache Cleaner. Try removing any other USB devices that are plugged in. Then restart the CPU. Check to see if you have another copy or another installation of OSX on your computer (in one case OSX had been copied to another drive - trashing the copy cleared up the 'Unexpectedly Quit' error messages). In System Preferences > Login Items make sure that no offending software is being loaded (in one case Palm software was causing a problem). Mike Good luck. |

Re: HELP ME! 6.0 Crashing Constantly
PT 6.01 has a bug with the midi quantize. So I've switched back to 6.0.
Does it make a difference if I'm on 10.2.3 or 10.2.6 or any other OS? |
