5.1.3 hands down. I've got 5.1.3 running on 2 macs, 6.x running on a couple, and 7.1.1 running on 2 and 5.1.3 just runs and runs...

cheers

As soon as I saw the thread, I thought to myself... 5.1.3... all the way.

I could do less but it worked better.

5.1.3 was ok, but for me it was PT 6.4.1 on 10.3.4. Rock solid!

But 7.3 is ok for me, except for the "freeze" problem.

Could it be that maybe 7.3.1 is returning to the "norm"? After quite a while of instability, PT is getting back to smoothness? Those of you claiming 7.3 goodness, what computer are you running?

I think all those variants of 5.1 were damned good but it has less to do with the app than it does the OS. OS9 was simply the pinacle of the simplicity and power of computing in one.

It was as fast as I was, never kept me waiting (except maybe fades and rendering) Auditioning was instant, now auditioning in PT 7 I get the spinning ball for 3 or 4 seconds. Same thing for using X-Noise and other Audio Suite plugins. They used to be instant. Now I wait, and sometimes hold my breath..... In fact, in 7.2 if I got editing too fast, it would crash. Haven't had that happen yet with 7.3.1. Still holding my breath....

i think Mike may have finally hit the nail on the head....

if you use PT everyday all day ....you might be fast......

are the beta testers fast enough for the core group of pros in here who work every day all day and FAST cuz we have people here sometimes looking at their watch while we are working.

we have to to be able to afford the many quirky updates that might be being tested by the slower end of the digi food chain.
not a judgement ...not an observation
just a thought.

Yea OS 9 was blazing fast when it came to moving within PT or the Finder. Obviously the processors were slower but that didnt seem to slow me down as much. My dual 2 gig G5 started to feel close to the old OS 9 world with a lightning fast processor but these crashes are really starting to take the fun out of it. So far so good on the G4. No major kernal panics or crashes. Not sure what to do with the G5.

you ask whether the beta testers are fast enough?

No disrespect to beta's - but can you imagine a PRO, faster than lightning in PT, loving to create music and making loads of dollars doing it - wanna be a beta tester??? - no man, not without a gun to his head or a dead horse's head in his bed.

I could not imagine beta testing my main DAW - alone the thought of a crash frustrates the H out a me…

For me no question, 6.9 on a G5 dual 2.

When I was on 5.1.3 it was with a G4 400 PCI graphics and Magma CB4.
At least one unexpected quit per day.
