PT wouldn't play even one track

I run two versions of pt on a M1 Mac Mini from 2020 on Monterey 12.4. I kept a version of 22.5, but I mostly use the newest one, which is 22.10. The problem applies to both, 'though. It only started recently, that I open a session, not very cpu heavy, especially not for an M1 and the System Usage monitor will show a red line and 100% cpu load and I can't start. Sometimes that even happens with a session that only contains one audio track. And it seems to make a difference, how I load the session. Loading "Recent" sessions seems to be the worst, sometimes I can use "load session from disc" and it works fine, other times I need to close pt and double click the session and start pt from there. Tried to trash prefs. didn't work. I was thinking about a reinstall but then again it appears on both versions of pt. I alway get it to work eventually, but the other day it took me an hour and I'm working for clients. Any thoughts ? thanx

I’d look at plug-ins. Perhaps a plug-in became unregistered in your iLok account, or a trial period plug-in expired?

I also would start with plugins since you already trashed prefs. Remember that plugins can sometimes screw things up, even if they are not used in a session. I would go to the Plugins folder and move all 3rd party plugins out to a temp folder on the desktop(so its easy to find and delete later on). Next step for me would be to uninstall both PT versions and re-install either for testing. If a single install runs fine, then put the other version back in(no point in having 2 installs if neither is working right)

Thanx. I never know, that a plug in can cause problems, if it is not used in a session. So i will have to sort that.

So I tried both, removed all third party plug ins, malfunction still there. Then I did a clean re-install of only one pro tools version...no change. And it is all a bit randomly, that makes trouble shooting very hard. Maybe it is one session causing the problem, but even that session sometimes loads and works ok. Any more suggestions ?

Are the sessions all being read and written to the same drive? Have you tried using an alternate drive as a “session” drive?

Yes, all the sessions are on the same external hard drive, except the test session with only one audio track. That is on the internal hard drive. So hard drive issues are also out.

What is OSX 10.181.1?

Did you do any OS updates recently or migration assistant restores?

What other software did you recently add to the system?

Remove both versions of Pro Tools. Trash all preferences. Install just one version (2022.12).

It could be your interface/driver. Not sure where else to look.

My Mac OS is 12.4, always forget to correct my signature. I did reinstall PT and it still misbehaves.
