Default Dual MTRX Studio setup

I have 2 MTRX studios and 2 HDX cards. I also have a Focusrite PCIe 128 channel Dante card. I have a 7.1.6 setup. I have all of the Dante channels hooked up. They are going to the Renderer and coming back as re-renders. I have all 64 channels of re-renders set up for monitoring and printing if I would like. My issue is that once I get to Dante #1 of MTRX #2 (or Dante channel #65 if you'd like), it does not monitor the re-render properly without switching to MTRX #2 in the "Select Unit" section under the DADMan Monitor profiles. It seems to be monitoring Dante channel #1 from MTRX#1 until I switch to MTRX#2. This all makes sense but my question is.... my 7.1.6 speakers are patched out of the MTRX#1 DA's.... is there anyway to get that Dante signal on MTRX#2 to output sound via MTRX#1 and have all 128 channels of Dante feed the MTRX#1 main 7.1.6 output?

Greetings,

Only 1 MTRX device can run ProMon = monitor section. So, you can easily get 14 channels of speakers + 50 re-renders off of the 1st 64 channels of Dante outputting from FF-128 back into MTRX ST A. In order to go beyond that you would have to bridge IO - for example connect 16 channels of ADAT out of MTRX ST B -> MTRX ST A. Not perfect, but would give you an additional chunk of re-renders if you really need them.

best,

Jeff

Delays would be different though (different connection formats)

Yes, indeed. You would need to compensate for those specific re-renders - that is true.

However - you could still generate the following from the first 64 channels:

7.1.6 Speaker Channels
2.0 Re-Re
BIN Re-Re
5.1 Loudness
7.1 Re-Re
7.1.4 Re-Re
7.1.6 Re-Re

...and you still have channels left over. Plus, you always have unlimited offline re-renders.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the info. I don't really need to listen to that many re-renders so it's fine if I'm basically limited to the MTRX#1. I have another question pertaining to this 2 MTRX setup. Currently I'm running all 128 channels of Dante between the two of them using the Focusrite 128 PCIe card. I'm doing this so I can get the benefit of the HDX with the Hybrid engine. My question is, if I lay out my beds and objects between the two MTRX's, once I hit channel 65 on the next MTRX with my objects, will there be any offset or delay or am I getting confused with the signal path? thanks.

No, you should be just fine. HDX card 1 -> 64 IO to MTRX ST A, and HDX card 2 -> 64 IO to MTRX ST B. Both funnel 64 channels into the respective FGPA of MTRX ST -> patched to the same PCIe-R card to hit the Dolby Renderer. Returns flow back from PCIe-R back into MTRX ST A - which is allocated as your monitoring / ProMon device.

Right. Ok that's what I have now. I just have gotten into printing anything past channel 64 of the renderer so I'm just double checking. Thank you again.

And one more thing, will the thunderbolt 3 card be able to replace the Dante 128 ch to the renderer while still having HDX and Hybrid? I’m still unsure of how it will help for an Atmos mix flow. ?

TB3 card on the MTRX Studio is only 64 channels.
Only on the MTRX II is it 256 channel.

So far I've tested the following:

HDX2 -> TB3 via MTRX II -> RendererV5 using 130/256 channels of TB3 driver on the same (MacStudio) workstation.

HDX2 -> TB3 via MTRX II -> RendererV5 using 130/256 channels of TB3 driver on a dedicated (M2 Mac Mini) workstation.

HDX1 -> TB3 via MTRX ST -> RendererV5 using 64/64 channels of TB3 driver on the same (M1 MacBook Pro) workstation.

HDX1 -> TB3 via MTRX ST -> RendererV5 feeding via DAB via AUXIO -> into renderer then feeding out to MTRX ST via TB3 for full channel count Atmos.

Additional configurations to explore:
HDX2 -> Dual MTRX ST with aggregate device composed of 2x TB3 options.

best,

Jeff
